In May of 1990, a group of twelve YWAM missionaries traveled from Los Angeles to Tijuana to build one house for a needy Mexican family. Sean Lambert's three-year-old daughter, Andrea, went along. As the team painted and hammered the wood, Sean noticed another family nearby watching them from an abandoned old bus pitched on a hill. Andrea soon connected with the children living in the bus and came over to her dad with a concerned look, saying,
Her words touched Sean's heart and echoed in his heart. When Sean got back to Los Angeles, he began calling various youth groups who were scheduled to join them in Tijuana that summer for outreach. One of the groups accepted Sean's challenge and they built a second house for the “bus people”.
Since then, Homes of Hope has built over 6000 homes worldwide.
Last week we had a team build a house from Ocean City, NJ too. This discussion is about ministry to the poor. Find out what you and your group could do.
