Paul and I met sometime in 2000, probably when one or more of our internship teams were in Kenya. He hosted a group of our interns from various American universities in 2001, which included a large one week Calling Quest seminar with over 100 students from the University of Nairobi. Paul had been working with Youth With A Mission’s Kings Kids ministries. He joined my team with YWAM’s Student Mobilization Centre and he helped lead two Schools of University Ministries & Missions in India in 2001 and 2003. He explains how that training impacted him. He gained revelation of God’s call to every area of life, every sphere of influence.
After co-leading the second School of University Ministries & Missions in Bangalore, Paul returned to his home in Kenya with a passion to mobilize young believers. To do that he first recruited senior pastors and bishops in the church to join him on a mission to Asia where they ministered and taught in China, Hong Kong, Singapore, India, Indonesia, and East Timor. Those leaders returned with their own vision and passion to send their young people, including young professionals into missions. Today there are three Kenyan doctors and two Kenyan teachers working in East Timor.
Paul enrolled in university to be closer to students. His passion has turned to leadership in business and missions. He sees how the world has become smaller due to globalization. Therefore he looks for opportunities to expose students from Africa to global ministry opportunities. He declares that the dependence that Africans once had on the Western church is very different today. The teams and the missionaries who go into missions are trusting God and their home churches in Africa to send them. He says, “Never put a limit before God.” Paul challenges the church in Kenya to release people into missions.
Paul has declared his desire to partner with us again as a representative of Converge internships in Africa.
